Yusufi, a young Fulani man in the tiny village of Bele Kwara, Niger, sits on a millet stalk bed with his daughter on his lap.  Yusufi sports the traditional facial scarring, that is considered beautiful. The scarring is done with a razor blade, and charcoal powder mixed with cream is rubbed into the fresh wound to create the darkened effect.
