Walkers participate in the 2010 "Light the Night" event in Rockville, Maryland. Light the Night is an annual charity walk organized by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Each year, communities across the US and Canada join together to raise funds, bringing help and hope to people battling blood cancers. Walkers carry illuminated white, red, and gold balloons as they walk. White balloons designate survivors, red is for supporters, and gold balloons are in memory of loved ones lost to cancer. Each walk usually brings 2,000 to 3,000 walkers, and pre-walk festivities are marked by live music and carnival games.
