Washington National Cathedral Gargoyles_2010_02703_ireneabdouphotography.com.jpg
The Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC is home to more than 200 stone-carved gargoyles, including male and female pairings of every race of man on earth (shown here). The purpose of the gargoyles were to both keep evil out of the cathedral and to serve as a water drainage system in torrential rain - the water pours out of the mouth of the gargoyle.
