Netherlands Carillon in Arlington Virginia_Washington DC Sightseeing_2011_10339-edit_ireneabdouphotography.com.jpg
Adjacent to the Arlington National Cemetery lies the Netherlands Carillon, a gift to the people of the United States from the Dutch for their aid during and after World War II. Each of the 50 carillon bells carries an emblem signifying a different group in Dutch society, together with verses of poem written by the Dutch poet, Ben van Eysselsteijn. Two bronze lions designed by the Dutch sculptor, Paul Koning, guard the Carillon's plaza steps.
