Washington National Cathedral Gargoyles_2010_02690_ireneabdouphotography.com.jpg

The Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC is home to more than 200 stone-carved gargoyles. Here, an old camera gargoyle dots the top of a buttress wall (left center). The purpose of the gargoyles were to both keep evil out of the cathedral and to serve as a water drainage system in torrential rain - the water pours out of the mouth of the gargoyle.
